In Ashkelon, Shoshi,the Director of The Ashkelon Multipurpose Day Care, told us that last week when the children came back to the center many of them were crying nonstop. When the caregivers in the groups asked “why are you crying” the children could not even answer. The ones who cannot speak yet obviously cannot explain and the ones who are old enough to speak just kept crying, unable to actually put all of their jumble of feelings into words.
Many of the children are showing signs of regression. Children who were toilet trained are having accidents. Some of the children are asking to be put back into diapers. Shoshi says this is because the children feel like they have no control in their lives and this(wearing a diaper) gives them some sense of control.
